Emulating a professional Photographer

I think that this was my most sucessful image of this assignment because it captures the essence of the everyday, just like the orignial photo. In my photo the lines of the stairs and railing lead to the subject, and the contrasting lines of the wall make the photo dynamic. The most challenging aspect of this assignment was matching Bill Brandt's photos to subjects that exist today. The buildings that he shot are not common today, and the activities that people did in his time are not often participated in, so it was difficult to find comparable shots. I did learn a lot about shooting in black and white with this assignment, as well as taking photos of ordinary events.

"Hi! I agree that this photo is your most sucessful. The colors and subjects are very similar, but there are enough differences that the photo is uniquly yours. I do think that your could have matched the emotion of the original photo a little more closely but the photo is beautiful." - Olivia Campbell

Hi Olivia! I really likely your photo set. I think it's surprising how turning a picture into B&W can take an ordinary photo into one with mystery and intrigue. That's how I felt with the house image you took. It made me wonder about the house's history and why the picture was taken (but maybe that is just my active imagination lol, but I think this shows the strength of editing). If you were really trying to copy the style of the photographer you posted, I'd recommend maybe playing around with the contrast setting. This can help elevate the shadows and provide depth. Anyway, great job and thanks for introducing me to this new photographer!
Hi! I agree that this was your most successful picture. The black and white usage along with the basic concept of both images match really well. It shows that you truly understand the type of photography your photographer does. I have no suggestions. Good job!
